DONITA AUXTER
PRESCHOOL LEAD TEACHER
& CHILD CARE
I have enjoyed being Trinity Lutheran School's Preschool teacher for the last 12 years! I am married to a pastor, Bob (Grace Lutheran, Monroe). We live on the farm where my grandparents/parents lived with a variety of animals including our 100+ pound German Shepherd, Vito and our rescue dog, Darla. The farm has been in our family since 1940. My brother and nephew still farm the land.
I have 2 grown step children who are married and have blessed us with 4 beautiful grandchildren and we have a daughter, Annalyse, who is finishing up her last year at Concordia University Ann Arbor after which she will be another Lutheran School teacher in our family (we have/had 4 others). Annalyse and I run a home baking company called “All the Sprinkles”. We love providing all kinds of baked goods to our customers.
In my spare time I volunteer at the Monroe County Animal Shelter where I work with shelter dogs to help prepare them to be ready to be adopted.
My classroom is a growing space. The three year olds come into my room and learn how to become more self-reliant, confident, develop fine and gross motor skills and learn to work in a community setting. Play, literacy along with much singing and dancing are the backbone to my classroom.
My students do many hands-on projects that focus on the topic of the week. We do a week of fire prevention the first week of October which is topped off by receiving a special packet made up for them by the LMR Fire Department. In non-Covid years, the local librarian comes in to do in-house field trips. The end of the year is usually topped off with a visit from some of the rabbits that live on my farm.
